  • H320 Corrupt Rockbox Display

    Hey Everyone,

I can't believe this forum is back online, I was never a visitor back in the day, I wish I did though!

I was beside myself when I found my H320, I installed a new battery and wanted to give Rockbox a go, especially with the SS upgrade.

After installing the latest version, my screen gets corrupted every few seconds and makes it unreadable, the original firmware works perfectly, I'm running 1.29 EU.

Does anyone have any tips to get this screen working?

Welcome Aboard! upon briefly scanning the Rockbox User Manual for the iriver H3xx models, I noticed this (had to read through it because it's been a looonnnggg minute since I worked on iriver/rockbox)

Supported Iriver firmware versions currently include 1.28K, 1.28EU, 1.28J, 1.29K, 1.29J, 1.30EU and 1.31K. Note: to be used with the bootloader. If you wish to install Rockbox on a US Iriver H320 and The US Iriver H320 and H340 firmware is not supported and cannot be patched b H340, you must first install a non-US version of the original firmware and then install one of the supported versions patched with the Rockbox bootloader. Warning: Installing a non-US firmware on a US Iriver H320 and H340 will permanently
I noticed you said you have v1.29EU installed which may be the issue.

      Hi Jeff,

Thanks for getting back to me I never noticed that, I'll flash the old firmware and see what happens.

Is there any need for an iso of the original disc that came with my player, I still have it and would be happy to copy and post it online.

      Cheers

      Ben

        Hey Ben,

That would be fantastic. Most of the stuff from years ago is gone so anything we can recover would be terrific.

          Hey Jeff,

No problem at all, I'll upload it tonight.

I'm regards to Rockbox, I have tried multiple compatible firmwares and I'm having the same issue.

After further digging I found this old post

And it links to a fix that was posted on the website back in the day

"http://www.misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=36004 Post number 10 has the solution. It looks harder than it might"

However, it appears it was never archived so I'm unable to see what the fix was.

I'll just use the original firmware for now until any new information comes to light.

Hey Ben, did you see the post at the bottom of that thread?

            hello,
since I had this problem since today, I decide to solve it with a small patch.

This patch applies to this file
            /firmware/target/coldfire/iriver/system-iriver.c
and removes almost any distortion on my iriver h340.

I hope this could help somebody!
